TI’s Kelly Seden says chat to your doc

Kelly Seden is a Thursday Island local who has spent most of her life living, growing, and working on the island.

As a mother of five children, Kelly wanted to be a good role model for her kids.

That’s why Kelly made the choice to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“I made the choice to get vaccinated for myself and my family,” Ms Seden said.

“Also, for my community here on T.I.,” she said.

“And also, to show my kids that it’s okay to get vaccinated.”

For her first vaccination, Kelly took her two high school aged daughters, and the process couldn’t have been simpler.

“The process was pretty easy, the wait wasn’t too long,” she said.

“We all got seen together, which was great. And got our first vaccine together.

“The second vaccine we’ve also had, and we’ve all been great.

“We’ve had no symptoms, bit of a sore arm but that’s about it.

“The good thing is now we’re covered, we’re vaccinated.”

Kelly also has some advice for people who are in the ‘let’s see how this all pans out’ cohort as she was once one of them too.

“I was one of those people who held off getting vaccinated.

“But the tourist’s always going to come and want to visit our beautiful part of Australia.

“And so they should, we want to share that.

“But we want to protect our community so don’t hold back, get vaccinated today, and help keep our community safe.”

Kelly warns that people who still aren’t sure should speak to a health professional before deciding whether or not to get the jab.

“So, I would encourage them to go and talk to their treating doctor and see if it’s ok for them to get vaccinated.

“And if they have any questions talk to their health provider.

“And not listen to gossip in the community.

“Seek the right advice and you’ll be right.”
