Get your jab to help others who can’t

Justine Law is an Indigenous Health Project Officer with the North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health.

She made the choice to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to help those at risk in the community.

“I got vaccinated to help the people who are more at risk,” she said.

“Those are the people who can actually really get severely affected.

“I think we have a responsibility to do it for the people who cannot get the vax or cannot survive COVID.”

Justine said that in her job, she has seen a lot of vaccine misinformation and people should seek out the advice of their doctor.

“We just encourage everyone to go to their GP and get the information from them,” she said.

“Get proper information, don’t just get steamrolled by the media and what’s happening on Facebook and social media.

“Just go to the GP and you can actually sit down and talk about yourself and it’s going to be good, professional information.”

Justine was vaccinated at her local GP’s office and found the whole experience very simple and streamlined.

Likewise, she had a bare minimum of side-effects from the vaccine.

“I did have a little bit of a sore arm after the first one but other than that…

“I just had my second one four days ago and I feel pretty good.”

Justine said that to get back to normality without rolling lockdowns and to reunite families, it is important to get the jab.

“It would just be great to go back to a little bit of normality and if that means we have to get 80 per cent vaccinated, that’s what we’ve gotta do.

“There’s a lot of people who haven’t seen their family in a very long time.

“So it’d be great just to go back to that little bit of normality.”
